Dismissed police officer Sachin Waze has been granted bail in the 2021 Antilia bomb scare case and the subsequent murder case of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran.
The case dates back to February 2021, when an SUV carrying explosives was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence, Antilia, in Mumbai. Hiran, who was linked to the vehicle, was later found dead in a creek in Thane in March 2021.
Waze was accused of being involved in the conspiracy surrounding the explosives-laden vehicle and Hiran’s death. The cases were investigated by the National Investigation Agency and involved allegations of a wider conspiracy.
Bail granted to Sachin Waze
A special NIA court granted Waze bail in connection with the cases. The court’s order reportedly examined the allegations against the former police officer and the provisions under which he had been charged.
The case had attracted significant attention after the SUV was found parked near Antilia with explosives and a note referring to the Ambani family.
Investigators later connected the vehicle to Hiran, who had reportedly been using it before it was found outside Ambani’s residence. His death became a separate part of the investigation.
Waze remained in custody for years
Waze was arrested in March 2021 following the investigation into the Antilia case. The probe later expanded to include the allegations surrounding Hiran’s death.
The prosecution had alleged that the two incidents were connected and formed part of a larger conspiracy. Waze denied the allegations.
With the latest bail order, Waze has secured relief in both the Antilia bomb scare case and the Mansukh Hiran murder case.
