Republicans accuse China of misinformation on COVID19, demand international probe

Mumbai: After the 20 Trillion Dollar law suit in Texas Northern District Court, Republican’s led by Congressman Jim Banks (Indiana) has moved Resolution in the House of Representatives moved on March 23 accusing Chinese government if intentional spread of misinformation to downplay the risk of COVID19 virus and its refusal to cooperate with international health authorities. On the other hand, three Republican Senators – Joshua Hawley (Missouri), Martha McSally (Arizona) and John Cornyn III (Texas) in a Senate Resolution moved on March 24 demanded an international investigation into the handling of the COVID19 outbreak and its worldwide impact.

Congressman Jim Banks in his Resolution moved in the lower house argued that “Chinese government records suggest that the first human became infected with COVID-19 on November 17, 2019 in China’s Hubei province. Chinese authorities first publicly confirmed the existence of COVID-19 on January 9, 2020, 14 days after the presence of a novel strain of Coronavirus was internationally confirmed”.

In his resolution, he further argues “a study by the University of Southampton found that if China had taken action 3 weeks earlier, the spread of Coronavirus would be reduced by 95 percent globally”. Congressman Jim Banks in his resolution also slams World Health Organisation (WHO) director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and calls him to retract what he calls his (Dr Tedros) misleading statements in support of the Chinese government.

The resolution argues that “China’s National Health Commission publicly denied COVID-19 was person-to-person transmissible until January 15, 2020, despite having uncovered contrary evidence in late December (2019) and being alerted of the transmissibility of COVID-19 on January 1, 2020. The People’s Daily, the largest newspaper in China, first reported on the Coronavirus on January 21, 2020, nearly a month after the virus was internally confirmed”.

The Senate resolution moved by the Republicans on March 24 talks about first case of COVID-19 being detected outside China, was announced in Thailand on January 13. “On January 14, the World Health Organisation announced that the Government of the People’s Republic of China had seen ‘no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel Coronavirus”.

“On March 11, the World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 a global pandemic with 1,18,000 persons being infected (then) and 4,291 dead in 114 different countries at the time of the announcement”. Congressman Jim Banks in his resolution talks of over 10,000 families having attended city of Wuhan annual Lunar New Year Banquet, which was organised and sponsored by the Wuhan city government.
