Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a digital platform called ‘Satyagraha’, aimed at bringing together different issue-based protest movements from across India.
Gandhi said the initiative would provide a platform for people and groups involved in protests over various issues to share their concerns, connect with similar movements and seek support.
In a post on X, Gandhi said people across the country were fighting for their rights but were often doing so separately.
“Across the country, people are fighting for their rights – and too often, fighting alone. Gen Z, students, farmers, Adivasis, Dalits, women – every struggle has its own story. But a lone voice is often easier to silence,” he said.
Gandhi said the ‘Satyagraha’ initiative would bring these different voices together through a common map.
“‘Satyagraha’ is an initiative to bring these voices together on one map,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi Invokes Mahatma Gandhi
The platform was launched shortly after the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, whose philosophy of Satyagraha centred on non-violent resistance and the pursuit of truth.
Invoking Mahatma Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi said, “Bapu taught us that truth is our greatest weapon. But an even greater weapon is standing together with the truth.”
He urged people involved in protests or movements over issues they consider unjust to submit their stories through the platform.
“If you too are fighting against any injustice, share your story. It will take just two minutes,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He added that the submitted movements would be displayed on the Satyagraha map, allowing people to see other groups raising similar concerns.
“You’ll see who else, like you, is fighting their own battle,” he said.
Gandhi Says He Will Support Protest Movements
Rahul Gandhi also said he would try to support people involved in such movements in his capacity as Leader of Opposition.
“And I will do whatever I can – in Parliament, on the streets, through letters, wherever I am needed – to stand with you. As the Leader of the Opposition, that is my responsibility,” he said.
In a video accompanying his announcement, Gandhi said protests were taking place across the country over a range of issues, including land, women’s rights, Dalit and OBC rights, education and examinations.
“We want to help organise these protests, put them together on one map, and work together with you to see if we can help you resolve what you’re fighting for,” he said.
He asked protest groups and individuals to register their movements on the platform by filling out a form with details of their concerns.
‘Truth Is Being Suppressed’, Says Rahul Gandhi
Gandhi alleged that truth was being suppressed across the country and said bringing different protest movements together was part of the purpose behind the new initiative.
“As the leader of opposition, it’s important for me to help people resist where truth is being crushed. The truth is important. It’s important at the highest levels, but it’s important that we fight for it in every corner of the country,” he said.
The launch comes as the Congress has been raising several issues concerning elections, education, social rights and other matters through protests and political campaigns. The new platform is intended by Gandhi to create a central space where information about such movements can be submitted and viewed.
