Moscow/New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon visit India, confirmed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday. However, Lavrov did not specify the exact date of the visit, though reports suggest it is expected this year.

Speaking at the “Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda” conference via video, Lavrov stated that India is currently making arrangements for Putin’s visit. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of India in Russia and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).

Lavrov emphasized that Putin’s visit follows an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made his first foreign trip post his 2024 Lok Sabha election victory to Russia.

“President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit from the Indian head of government. A visit by the Russian head of state to the Republic of India is currently being prepared,” Lavrov was quoted by Russian news agency TASS.

This visit will be a continuation of high-level diplomatic engagements between the two nations. In July 2023, PM Modi visited Russia for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit at Putin’s invitation.

Earlier this year, TASS had also reported that Modi was expected to visit Moscow on May 9 to attend the 80th anniversary parade of Victory in the Great Patriotic War at Red Square.
