Lucknow: In a dramatic and emotionally charged development, Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, has publicly declared his decision to seek a divorce from his wife and BJP leader Aparna Yadav. The announcement, made through a personal post on social media, has sent ripples across political and social circles, given the couple’s high-profile background and contrasting political paths.
Prateek Yadav, who has largely remained away from active politics, broke his silence with a deeply personal message in which he accused Aparna Yadav of damaging his family relationships and prioritising fame and influence over personal bonds. Using stark language, he stated that the marriage had become unbearable and that he intended to legally end it at the earliest.
In his statement, Prateek also opened up about his mental health struggles, claiming that he is going through an extremely difficult phase in life. He alleged that during this period, he did not receive emotional support from his spouse, which further deepened the rift between them. His words reflected distress, disappointment, and a sense of personal betrayal, making the post one of the most candid disclosures ever made by a member of the influential Yadav family.
Prateek and Aparna Yadav were married in 2011 and are parents to two children. Despite being part of one of Uttar Pradesh’s most prominent political families, Prateek consciously chose a different path. An MBA graduate from Leeds University in the United Kingdom, he built his career as a real estate developer and fitness entrepreneur in Lucknow and surrounding areas. He is also known for his strong interest in animal welfare and has supported multiple initiatives focused on the protection and care of animals.
Aparna Yadav, on the other hand, gradually carved out her own public and political identity. Initially associated with the Samajwadi Party, she contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from the Lucknow Cantonment constituency. Her political journey took a decisive turn in 2022 when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, a move that attracted national attention due to her family ties. Since then, she has openly backed key BJP positions and initiatives and has remained active in both politics and social work.
In September 2024, Aparna Yadav assumed office as the Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission, further strengthening her public role. She also runs an NGO focused on animal welfare and works on issues related to women’s empowerment.
