Defence Ministry Approves Rs 2,000 Crore Emergency Procurement to Strengthen Border Security and Counter Terrorism

New Delhi: In a significant move to reinforce national security and counter-terror preparedness, the Ministry of Defence has sanctioned an emergency procurement fund of ₹1,980 crore under fast-track procedures. The initiative is focused on rapidly bolstering the Indian Army’s operational capabilities, especially in sensitive zones such as Jammu and Kashmir.

The procurement is aimed at equipping frontline troops with cutting-edge technology and advanced systems to enhance situational awareness, mobility, protection, and lethality in counter-terrorism operations. The ministry has concluded 13 contracts under the Emergency Procurement (EP) mechanism, ensuring swift delivery and deployment.

Key Equipment to be Procured:

• Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS): To neutralize hostile UAVs and enhance aerial surveillance.
• Low-Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR): For improved detection of low-flying threats.
• Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS): Including both launchers and missiles, to guard against aerial attacks.
• Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs): To support real-time intelligence and precision targeting.
• Loitering Munitions (VTOL-enabled): For high-accuracy strike capabilities in rugged terrain.
• Multiple Drone Categories: Including surveillance, combat, and reconnaissance drones.
• Bulletproof Jackets (BPJs) & Ballistic Helmets: Enhancing personal protection of troops in high-risk operations.
• Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs): Both heavy and medium, for fast deployment and mobility in volatile zones.

The purchases, executed under compressed timelines, signal the government’s firm commitment to ensure quick response readiness for any cross-border provocation or internal threat. The equipment is expected to significantly improve troop effectiveness in terrain where fast action and protection are critical.
