‘Nothing Else Was Discussed’: KC Venugopal Clears Air on Congress Karnataka Meeting Buzz

Congress Denies Karnataka Leadership Change Buzz

K. C. Venugopal on Monday rejected speculation surrounding the Congress leadership meeting involving top Karnataka leaders, clarifying that the discussions were strictly related to upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Venugopal said the party leadership held detailed talks on election strategy and candidate selection for Karnataka and several other states.

“Today we had a detailed meeting with Honourable Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji and LoP Rahul Gandhi ji. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ji, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar ji, the General Secretary in charge of Karnataka and myself were part of the discussion,” he said.

Focus Only on Rajya Sabha and Council Polls

Venugopal stressed that the entire meeting was centred around preparations for the Rajya Sabha and Karnataka Legislative Council elections.

“The entire discussion was concentrated on the coming Rajya Sabha elections and Council elections of Karnataka,” he stated.

His remarks came amid growing political speculation over possible leadership changes in Karnataka and reports of internal discussions within the Congress high command.

‘No Reality at All’ in Speculation

The senior Congress leader firmly denied reports suggesting that other political issues or organisational matters were discussed during the meeting.

“There is no reality at all to such speculation,” Venugopal said while responding to media questions.

He added that the meeting mainly involved discussions over potential candidates and election planning.

Candidate List to Be Announced Soon

Venugopal also revealed that the Congress party would announce candidates for Karnataka along with nominees from several other states including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.

“The candidates of Rajya Sabha and Council seats of Karnataka will be announced along with the other seats,” he said.

He once again insisted that no other political matter was discussed during the meeting.

“That’s all. This is what we have decided today, nothing else was discussed,” Venugopal added.
