172 Tourists from Maharashtra Stranded in Uttarkashi Floods and Landslides — Rescue Ops in Full Swing

Mumbai: Severe landslides and flooding in the Dharali region of Uttarkashi district have left 172 tourists from Maharashtra stranded, according to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). Authorities confirmed that 171 of them are safe, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining missing tourist, Mrs. Kritika Jain.

Rescue & Relief Status:

  • Out of the 171 located tourists, 160 have resumed their journeys — with 31 in Maatli, 6 at Jolly Grant, and 123 in Uttarkashi.
  • 11 tourists in Harsil were stranded but have been successfully airlifted to safety by helicopter at 6:00 a.m. today.
  • The Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local rescue teams are working on the ground at Dharali.

Government Response:

  • The Maharashtra State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) is coordinating closely with SEOC Uttarakhand, the District Control Room, DEOC Uttarkashi, and the National Emergency Response Centre (NERC) in New Delhi.
  • Maharashtra CM is personally monitoring the situation.
  • Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra’s Disaster Management and Water Resources Minister, is on-site in Uttarkashi directing rescue operations.
  • On August 7, the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra reviewed emergency measures and contacted Uttarakhand’s Chief Secretary, Anand Vardhan, requesting full assistance.

Infrastructure & Communication:

  • Communication lines are partially restored, but road connectivity remains cut off.
  • Satellite phones have been deployed by IGP Rajeev Swaroop to ensure coordination in affected areas.
  • Instructions have been issued to restore essential infrastructure urgently.
