Shillong: Meghalaya Principal Secretary Syed Md A Razi was found dead in his hotel room in Uzbekistan’s historic city of Bukhara, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The senior bureaucrat was on a private visit to the Central Asian nation and had reportedly been staying there since April 4.
Razi, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer deputed to the Meghalaya government in 2021, is suspected to have died of cardiac arrest, according to preliminary inputs shared by officials.
A senior government said that concerns were raised when Razi did not respond to phone calls on Monday morning. “Later, hotel staff broke open the door of his room, where they found his lifeless body,” the official said.
