Two members of a family die in a house collapse in Santacruz, search on for one underway

Mumbai: The incessant rains since last night led to a house collapsing in the nullah at Vakola in Santacruz East on Tuesday. Two members of a family died in the incident and search operation is still underway to recover the other missing person.

Due to the heavy downpour a ground plus one structure collapsed in the nullah at the backyard of the house in Vakola in Santacruz East on Tuesday afternoon. In this incident a woman and three girls fell in the nullah.

The police with the help of local residents managed to rescue a girl identified as Shivanya Kakade 2.6 year old girl and search operation for the woman and the two girls was underway.  The girl was rescued and sent to VN Desai hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at around 11 am, at room number 694 and 695 Trimurti chawl, Dhobi Ghat, Agripada in Vakola area in Santacruz East. The police and fire brigade were informed and summoned for help.

According to the information received by the fire brigade, on arrival at scene of incident it was learnt that the floors of the room 694 and 695 had entirely collapsed in the nullah which was at the backyard of the ground plus one structural house.  A woman and three girls from room no. 695 fell in open nullah flowing backside of house. They were identified as Rekha Milind Kakade (26), Shreya Milind kakade (7.6) years, Janvi Milind Kakade age (1.6).

Later in the afternoon, NDRF team arrived on the spot. Around at evening 5.30 pm dead bodies of a 1 year, 6 months baby and body of the woman was pulled out of the nullah, still search operation for a 7 year old girl was going on.

“Due to the overflow in the nullah the house at the Trimurti Rahivasi Sangh collapsed. Three children and a woman fell in the nullah. One girl was rescued by police with help of locals and two dead bodies recovered and still our team with fire brigade and NDRF team are searching for one remaining girl”, said deputy commissioner of police Zone -8, Manjunath Singe.- By Vikas Nag
