MahaRail to build Semi High Speed Double Line Rail in Maharashtra

MahaRail to implement Greenfield Semi High Speed Double Line Rail network with commercial speed of 200 Kmph between Pune – Nashik industrial corridor of Maharashtra 

Mumbai: MahaRail will be implementing the Greenfield Semi High Speed Double Line Railway (SHSDLR) network between two important industrial hubs of Maharashtra – Pune and Nashik. 

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted to Government of Maharashtra and Ministry of Railways. Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC or MAHARAIL) MRIDC has received approval letter on February 10 from Central Railway for implementing the Greenfield Semi- High Speed- Broad Gauge Double line with commercial speed of 200 Km per hour speed; MRIDC has approached Ministry of Railways for approval for this project.

MRIDC will also be seeking a formal approval from State government to start the construction of Greenfield Semi High Speed Double line between Pune – Nashik. Once, the approvals are granted from respective authorities the project is estimated to be completed in 1200 days (roughly 3.6 years) from the date of financial closure. 

The Greenfield Semi-High-Speed Double line between Pune – Nashik will provide direct connectivity between Pune and Nashik; it will take 2 hours for passengers to complete the journey. MRIDC has envisaged the coaching configuration of 6 rakes with a carrying capacity of 450 passengers per train, total number of 48 trips made by 6 rakes in a day for the initial phase. 

The project will open a new avenue for industries by fast track movements of cargo by Railways as important MIDC areas such as Chakan, Sinnar Satpur will be directly connect by this Railway line. Apart from these MIDC areas, the proposed line will cater to another important Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Khed, Narayangaon and Manchar. This project will also provide benefit to Tourism and pilgrimage places in Pune – Nashik corridor.

The total length of this project is 235.15 Km with 24 station being planned by MRIDC. It is proposed that there will be 8 major stations and 16 minor stations for passenger traffic. MRIDC has plan to develop Private Freight Terminal (PFT), Dry Port, Multimodal and commercial hub, Warehouses and sidings at suggested locations by the local industries. MRIDC is inviting Equity Partners to participate in the project with debt equity ratio proposed by MRIDC is 60:40, it is likely to be the First broad Gauge Railway line with commercial speed of 200Kmph. (Future speed up to 250 Kmph.) 

Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC or MAHARAIL) a Joint Venture of “Government of Maharashtra” and “Ministry of Railways” on 50:50 basis with an objective to provide a boost to the Rail Infrastructure Projects in the state of Maharashtra by providing critical connectivity and capacity enhancement. MRIDC aiming to provide a boost to the Rail Infrastructure projects in the Maharashtra State on the principle of cooperative federalism.

The aim of MRIDC is also to identify the traffic potential of different regions of the state including rail connectivity to the neighboring states and find out economically viable projects and implement them with fast track construction and commissioning. There are several regions in Maharashtra State, having long pending demands for construction of new Railway lines. 

The objective of the corporation is to build, construct, operate, develop, finance and maintain viable railways projects and – or projects with viability gap funding in the territory of India, which will be used for both freight and passenger services and to develop required Rail infrastructure including construction of railway lines together with all related rail facility.
