Fadnavis counters NCP criticism of Army Chief, says why nationalism cant be an issue

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday defended Army Chief Bipin Rawat’s terse warning to Pakistan of another deeper than Balakot attack after reports of regrouping of terrorists there. He was responding to queries from newspersons after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Rajya Sabha MP, Adv Majeed Memon remarked that the army chief should not behave like a government spokesperson. Responding to the query, Fadnavis argued that nationalism is one of our agendas, it is not the only agenda the BJP has. Article 370 is not just about Kashmir but it is about national integrity, and the BJP is proud of its agenda of nationalism.

Replying to queries over the suitability of Metro 3 car depot inside Aarey Milk Colony and alternate site for the same, the Chief Minister stated that another specific area is being forcefully pushed for the purpose. But buying that alternate land will cost Rs. 5,000 crore more. As a result the financial viability of metro will be adversely affected and the cost of its tickets will rise steeply. Alleging that some vested interests are behind raking up the issue, Fadnavis disclosed that out of the 13,000 complaints received over the tree cutting issue, 10,000 of them have been received from one IP address alone.

When asked about the fate of the pre-poll alliance with the Shiv Sena and entry of Narayan Rane in the BJP, Fadnavis sarcastically remarked that he too was worried about the alliance. He added that the party will soon take a decision on both the issues at the appropriate time.

Earlier, the Chief Minister lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Finance for the Centers decision to slash Corporate tax slab to 22 percent from 30 percent. Arguing that the move will help Maharashtra a lot, Fadnavis further stated that industrialists had always complained of lagging behind in the competition on a global level due to high corporate tax. He added that the state is the largest corporate and manufacturing hub in India and the decision will greatly boost the economy and lead to job creation. Fadnavis also welcomed the Centers decision of merging 10 public sector banks into four banks and remission on the home loans of Rs 45 lakh.
