Fadnavis gets trolled for opposing police action on journalists for allegedly spreading fake news.

Mumbai: When former chief minister and Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis called on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari seeking his intervention in the action against the suppression of media in the state, he would have never anticipated that this step of his would not only bring him criticism but also dig up ghosts from his past.

Fadnavis, accompanied by LoP, State Legislative Council Pravin Darekar, BJP MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Ashish Shelar and BJP leader Vinod Tawde called on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Tuesday. In the letter, Fadnavis claimed that the state government was terrifying journalists and editors by subjecting them to police action and ‘interrogation’ for doing their duties.

After the visit Fadnavis wrote about it on his social media account. In no time, the netizens pounced on and trolled him. His frequent visits to the Governor have become a matter of fun among netizens and many are taking a dig at him advising to shift to one of the rooms in the Raj Bhavan. After the visit on Tuesday the netizens once again took the opportunity and trolled him.

Fadnavis and Darekar, in the letter submitted to the Governor had claimed that the state government was vindictive about the journalists and editors. The letter claimed that an editor of a news channel was grilled for more than 12 hours for speaking against leader of ruling alliance in Maharashtra. The netizens in a series of thousands of comments on his post, reminded him of similar allegations by the then opposition leaders, who are now in the ruling alliance.

Using social media for advantage had been a strategy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for several years now. Initially, when it was the only party that had realised importance and strength of social media, gained a lot riding the virtual wave created by its IT Cell. Now all the political parties have mastered the game and using it to the fullest.
