BJP accuses BMC of not using the 400 ventilators brought from PM Care fund

Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party group leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Prabhakar Shinde on Wednesday alleged the BMC that the 400 ventilator machines that were brought and kept in various civic hospitals in Mumbai which are not brought in use and many people who are affected of the coronavirus are losing their lives due to non-availability of ventilators.

According to Shinde, he said he has got the information that 400 ventilators are bought from the funds of PM Care Fund in Mumbai and distributed to various civic hospitals but they are not being installed till now. He questioned as to who is responsible for this carelessness and why these ventilators are not being brought to use, at the time when the city is in desperate need of them?

“BMC is acting very insensitive and playing with people’s lives. I myself have visited two civic hospitals MT Agarwal hospital and Sawarkar hospital. There are new ventilators kept which were not installed and many people are dying as they have not been given the required treatment facility”, said Shinde.

On this issue, BMC has issued a press release in which BMC has said that the allegations over the issue of ventilators are baseless and hold no truth in it. As a result, these allegations are being refuted by the municipal administration and the following factual disclosures are being made.

“BMC has received 446 ventilators from the PM Care Fund of the Central Government. These ventilators were obtained in phases and which were supposed to be checked and installed by the technical staff and manpower of the concerned company.

These ventilators are also tested during operations and if any technical requirements are to be met, they also need to be processed. It is functioning according to all these fixed methods. While these ventilators were being received in phases, as the machines were received its testing works were conducted and to make them ready to operate.”

The release further states, the measures taken by the BMC administration regarding Covid 19 are proving to be successful. As a result, the number of corona affected patients is declining and the number of people returning home after successful treatment is now up to 70 per cent. Due to the reduction in the number of patients, the beds in various hospitals, Corona Health Centers are empty.

Out of 1,053 ventilators available with the BMC for the treatment of 19 Covid patients, about 125 ventilators are no longer in use due to the declining number of patients which is a positive sign for us  In such a situation, it is not correct to say that newly received ventilators, are just keep and not brought in use.

On the contrary, the administration feels that it is an indicator that the Covid 19 infection in Mumbai is coming under control. As a result, there is no fact in the allegation that the ventilators fell into the dust and the administration is completely denying these allegations.-By Vikas Nag
